MEQUON, WISCONSIN: I attended the NY2LA Swish and Dish in early April. These are the top performers I saw at that event. Here we go:
Kon Knuffel, Phenom U 17U: 6'6" wing once again showed his scoring chops from all over the court. Deadly three point shooter has expanded his game to drives to the basket and finishes with either hand.
Nick Jankowski, Phenom U 17U: 6'3" combo guard is a lefty who shot the lights out the entire weekend. Hit shots from three and mid range shots. Guarded his position well moving his feet on defense, getting good position on the perimeter. Hit 5 threes in one game I watched.
Jack Stanton, Breakway Basketball 17U: 6'2" combo guard played a lot of point guard all weekend, but still scored big numbers. Had a 29 point game with 7 threes, another game with 6 threes, a 20 point game and an 18 point game. It has led to a number of scholarship offers. Led North (Downers Grove) to their first State Finals berth in high school season.
Azavier Robinson, George Hill All-Indy 17U: 6'2" point guard is a class of 2025 young man playing an age level up. One of the best two way guards in the gym, he's a slasher who can finish a variety of ways. He can jump over you and dunk on you, has a nice pull-up jump shot and a serviceable three point shot. Defends opposing guards like a mad man with quick hands and feet. Prep schools are all over him.
Malachi Johnson, Greater Purpose 17U: 6'2" point guard is one of the most underrated players in state of Illinois. Rockford Guilford player is a true set up point guard who can score on all three levels. Finishes well at the basket, nice mid range jumper, and hits threes. Defends with a purpose slowing down opposing guards. He continued his stelar play at the Prep Hoops Chitown Tipoff with multiple games of over 20 points.
Cam Cerese, Greater Purpose 17U: 6'3" combo guard showed he can score at any level of the court. is known for being a three point shooter and can do it off the bounce or the catch. Puts up big numbers for this team as he did for Lake Park (Roselle).
Chris Riddle, Mac Irvin Fire 17U EYCL: 6'6" wing showed an improved jump shot as he exploded in the Platinum Title game in the second half with 4 threes in that half to help the Fire win the title over Breakaway Basketball. Kenwood Academy (Chicago) product.
Calvin Robins Jr, Mac Irvin Fire 17U EYCL: 6'6" wing is a Big Tim favorite. A jumping jack who was eating with his shot blocking, quick second jump follow up dunks, and mid range shooting. Hits the glass on both ends of the court, straight big time energy and game changer with his athleticism. Kenwood Academy (Chicago) product.
Tayshawn Bridges, Mac Irvin Fire 17U EYCL: 6'2" combo guard was engaged on both ends all weekend. Attacking the basket, finishing, finding teammates for scores, and making life miserable with his defense. Quick hands on the ball, and jumping passing lanes off the ball. Big time explosive athlete off the bounce.
Bradley Longcor, Illinois Wolves 16U Under Armour: 6'3" point guard impressed in the first time I've watched him. He seems to get a piece of the paint on drives anytime he wants. makes good decisions when he does as he can score with either hand of set up teammates for scores. Nasty mid range pull-up jumper in the lane. Quincy (IL) product has shown he'll be in my Top 10 for Class of 2025.
Braylon Roman, Mid Pro Academy 17U: 6'4" point guard impressed in the event. Has a nice three point jump shot and can get in the lane and create opportunities for himself and his teammates. Bloomington (IL) product used his long arms and frame to give opposing point guards fits.
Niko Newsome, Mid Pro Academy 17U: 6'6" wing showed he could hit threes, drive to the lane and finish at the rim along with versatility as a defender. Bloomington (IL) product created for his teammates off the dribble and touch passes without a dribble.
Tyler Mason, Mid Pro Academy 17U: 6'2" point guard showed the steady play he showed during the season for Class 3A State Champ Metamora. Hits threes, gets into the lane and makes the right decision whether to take the shot or set up a teammate.
Kris Hills, Illinois Jaguars 17U: 5'10" point guard made up for lost time as he unfairly had to sit out the entire high school season at Walther Lutheran. He showed his scoring chops on pull up three pointers and finishing on strong drives to the basket. Did not show any rust in the game I watched.
Caleb Cosme, ET21 Buckeyes 17U: 5'9" point guard is just steady and runs a team. Makes the right play whether it's setting up a teammate or hitting a three pointer from 25 feet and in. Can get into the lane with ease and hit mid range pull-ups. Brother Rice (Chicago) product.
Darshan Thomas, Ronnie Field Elite: 6'6" combo guard was able to display his guard skills in this event. He has to play more interior for Fenwick (Oak Park), but showed his three point shot and slashing ability. He still did plenty of rebounding, but instead of getting it to a guard, he pushed the ball up the court and ran the offense himself. Showed an expanded game.
Aleks Alston, Mac Irvin Fire 16U: 6'9" wing was just coming back from injury and showed little rust. He extends the defense with his three point shooting out to about 25 feet. Has improved his rebounding especially on the defensive end. Kenwood Academy (Chicago) product.
Mike Jones, Mac Irvin Fire 16U: 6'7" wing showed his explosive athleticism with some powerful dunks off the bounce and followups on the offensive glass. Changes ends of the court with a quickness.
Tristan Ford, Mac Irvin Fire 16U: 6'4" combo guard ran the point with great efficiency in they event. Nice drives and lefty finishes at the rim, step back three point shot, and mid range pull-ups.
Xzavion Mitchell, Team Herro 16U: 6'8" wing was one of the best players at the event. His versatility hitting threes, taking defenders off the dribble and finish at the rim with either hand. He can defend four positions on the defensive end of the court. Explosive scorer who's hard to deal with for opposing defenders. Helped team to Platinum Title.
Elijah Griffin, Team Herro 16U: 6'1" combo guard can get into the paint, hit mid range jump shots and is a dangerous three point shooter. Helped team to Platinum Title.
Myles Herro, Team Herro 16U: 6'2" point guard is a floor general. He can get his own shot but was setting up his teammates for baskets in the event. He hit two threes in the game I watched, but had a bushel load of assists.
Stefan Cicic, Mac Irvin Fire 17U: 6'11" center was running the floor and getting baskets. Posted up for scores over either shoulder. Rim protected with his girth more than blocking a bunch of shots. Riverside Brookfield product.
Rajan Roberts, Team Rose 15U 3SSB: 6'2" combo guard is learning when to score and when to set up his teammates. He's a certified bucket who can score a variety of ways. Three pointers. mid range floaters, finishing at the rim with either hand. Proviso West (Hillside) product.
Andre Tyler, Team Rose 15U 3SSB: 6'3" combo guard is a very efficient scorer as he scorers at all three levels but doesn't need a lot of shots to do it. Very good on the catch and shoot three pointer. St Rita (Chicago) product.
