Open Gym run: Schaumburg Saxons!!!!

Writer's picture: Big TimBig Tim

This program has won one state title in Class 2A (when it was two classes) in 2001 beating favored Thornwood (South Holland) with high school all-american, and future NBA player Eddy Curry. They were hitting threes from all over the court. This team could be one of their best since that team. Here's some of the talent:

JORDAN TUNIS, Class of 2025 5'11" point guard was his usual self in changing speeds, getting where he wants on the court. He hit 5 threes by my count in the open gym. Makes good passes, and gets into opposing point guards as a defender. Starting to get some small college interest. Underated point guard in the state of Illinois. Twitter handle: @Jordantunis1.

ZION YOUNG, Class of 2025 6'7" forward showed he's a monster force on the interior. He scored on post ups over both shoulders. Son of Schaumburg legend Tony Young, who was on the 2001 title team. Hit a few long step back three point shots off the catch. Rebounded on both ends of court, and made some nice long outlet passes for layups on the other end of the court. Brought the ball up to set up the offense. Rim protected with some blocked shots. Small college interest. Twitter handle: @zmoney1525.

CAM ANDERSON, Class of 2026 6'6" wing came to the scrimmage late from phyisical therapy. Made an impression right away with a steal and dunk. He was immediately talking and communicating on defense. Hit some mid range jumpers, along with a couple of threes. Explosive, athletic wing who can rebound, block shots, and bring the ball up the court.Scrimmage was more lively when he jumped in, x-factor for this team. Twitter handle: @Cam_523.

JASON JANCIK, Class of 2027 6'4" wing is an athletic high jumping explosive wing. Was not shy about shooting threes and hit a few. Showed slashing ability to the basket and finished more than his fair share at the rim. Had a few blocked shots on the defensive end and hits the glass. His jumper gets more consistent watch out for a star of the future for the Saxons. Should contribute this year with energy plays. Twitter handle: @jumpingjelly08.

JACOB JANOWSKI, Class of 2025 6'7" center is an energy player who hits the glass, plays defense on other bigs, and scores in the paint area mostly with his right hand. Rim protects with his length and hits the glass on the defensive end.

TONY HORTON, Class of 2026 5'10" point guard just transferred from Bolingbrook on Monday. Was everywhere in the open gym. Hustled for loose balls, defended on and off the ball. Had steals on and off the ball, is a slasher to the basket and scoring in transition and in halfcourt. Could contend for a spot in the rotation.

AARON SHOGREN, Class of 2027 6'1" combo guard showed he could hit threes from a number of spots on the floor. He hit them off the dribble and off the catch. Had some nice drives to the basket and either passed the ball or finished at the rim. Future star guard in the Saxon program.

CONCLUSION: Schaumburg was missing some rotational players who are playing football. One of the favorites in the Mid Suburban West. Could win it or finish in the midle of the pack. They have a big three in Tunis, Young, and Anderson, If they can get some steady three point shooting from other spots, could make a deep playoff run in Class 4A. Possible Big Tim Super 25 team in preseason.
