Open gym run: St Laurence (Burbank)!!!!!

St Laurence had their open gym at Wintrust Complex in nearby Bedford Park. They didn't have an open space at the high school for this date. This team has a lot of talent and has a chance for a deep run in Class 3A. Here are some players who did well in the workout along with some good matchups.

EJ MOSLEY VS NOAH CORRO: A nice point guard matchup. Purdue Fort Wayne commit vs incoming freshman. Mosley, a 5'11' Class of 2025 guard had some moments of scoring in the paint and from three. Corro, a 5'9" Class of 2028 guard did not back down and was hitting threes from all over the court. You could not go under on a screen against him as he'll hit it every time. Mosley is the undisputed starter, but Corro has a great chance to have a spot in the rotation.

JACOB RICE: Class of 2025 6'4" wing did not have the greatest of shooting days from the perimeter, but showed great communication in talking on defense. Showed leadership qualities and is the pulse of this team. He scored with no problem on postups in the paint, along with drives and finishes at the rim.

MARKESE PEOPLES: Class of 2027 6'1" combo guard was the top player on the court in this practice. Uses big body to get space in the post and score mostly with his left hand. Did this time and time again on postups and drives to the basket with powerful finishes. Made some great passes out of the post and on fast breaks drives to the basket. He dropped off passes for layups, cutters to the basket, and to three point shooters.

BRADLEY STRATTON: Class of 2025 6'1" shooting guard fills it up from three especially off the catch from a pass. He hit more than a few in this workout. I was very impressed with his defensive intensity as he guarded multiple defenders. He switched over to Corro when he was on fire trying to extinguish it. The willingness to defend should get him some more attention from college scouts.

ZERRICK JOHNSON, Class of 2025 6'2" point guard did some penetration and setting up teammates in the workout. Played his usual good defense on the ball, and pushed the tempo either off the outlet pass, or getting the rebound.

REGGIE STEVENS, Class of 2027 6'3" combo guard was hitting the three either off the dribble or off the catch. He had two dunks in the workout, and looked comfortable hunting his shot. Usually younger players are gun shy but he's not. Long lanky guard should be a rotational player.

JEREMIAH LESURE, Class of 2025 6'6" forward transferred in from South (Plainfield). Athlete who's a good rim runner and hits the glass hard. Raw right now but has a chance to be a big time contriutor to the Vikings on the interior.

CONCLUSION: Don't have any big men to speak of but have good size from 6'2" to 6'6" and will have to be tough on the defensive boards. This will have to happen to live up to expectations of this team in Class 3A. Good skill at the guard and perimeter positions. Jacob Rice will be key as he'll have to assume the scoring role when a team needs a clutch basket. A lot of these guys have played together off and on since their freshman year, Rice, Johnson, Caleb Lindsey, Mosley. Team chemistry will have to show deep in the state playoffs. Will be fun to watch.
