Palatine upsets #11 Rolling Meadows to win Mid Suburban Conference Title!!!!

Writer: Big TimBig Tim

ROLLING MEADOWS, ILLINOIS: The Mustangs had the home advantage for the title game. Not many were expecting Palatine to win except themselves and maybe their fans. They get a huge victory going into the state playoffs. Palatine won their first conference title in 30 years. Here we go:

Palatine 54 #11 Rolling Meadows 52: This was a very entertaining game as Palatine got off to a 16-2 lead in the first quarter. Rolling Meadows made a comeback going on a 16-2 run themselves to tie it at 18 in the second quarter. Palatine still lead 24-23 at halftime. From there it went back and forth. Palatine took a 54-52 lead on a layup from junior guard Tommy Elter (6'2") with 40 seconds to go and they had one team foul, so they proceeded to foul three times to get it to 4. Senior point guard Minnesota commit Cameron Christie (6'6") shot a three from mid court with about 6 seconds left. Rolling Meadows and their fans thought he was fouled as it looked like Palatine was trying to foul again. Ball caromed off the backboard and went out of bounds with 3 seconds left.

CONNOR MAY HAS BEEN MONEY ALL SEASON: Tonight was the same for the 6'7" junior guard had 21 points tonight on 10 for 17 from the floor, 1 for 3 from three. He made big time plays on finishes at the rim and a couple of fadeaway jumpers in the lane.

SAM MILLSTONE WAS HUGE IN THE FIRST HALF: The 5'11" senior point guard scored 8 of his 10 points in the first half on 2 threes and controlled the tempo all night.

TOMMY ELTER SHOWED HIS PASSING CHOPS: 6'2" junior guard had 5 assists in addition to his game winning layup. He added 10 points and 6 rebounds to his total.

TYLER SWIERCZEK HIT DOUBLE FIGURES: 6'4" senior forward had 10 points and 2 steals in the game to make it four in double figures for the Pirates.

CAMERON CHRISTIE HAD HALF OF THIS TEAMS POINTS: Minnesota commit 6'6" senior point guard had 26 points on 8 for 17 from the field, 5 for 12 from three, 5 of 6 from the free throw line. He did all he could to try and will his team to a win. Got a steal and dunk to put Rolling Meadows ahead 52-50 with 3:08 left. They did not score another point.

TSVET SOTIROV WAS ONLY OTHER MUSTANG IN DOUBLE FIGURES: 6'7" senior wing had 13 points on 6 for 9 shooting, 1 for 3 from three.

Palatine's scoring balance won this game for them, they received more contributions from more people than Rolling Meadows did tonight. Also the 1-2-2 that changed to a 2-3 when the ball went into the corners slowed down Rolling Meadows from getting out on fast breaks. Mustangs went 7 for 20 from three point range tonight. Palatine ups it's record to 23-6 and is the #3 seed in the Class 4A Barrington Sectional. Rolling Meadows drops to 25-6 and is the #3 seed in New Trier (Winnetka) Sectional.
