LAS VEGAS, NV: Pangos All-American Camp took place June 2-4th, 2024 at Bishop Gorman High School one of the greatest high school athletic facilities I've ever seen. Dinos Trigonis once again put on a great event. Thanks to him and the staff at the camp who were as always very hospitable. It was said that this year was watered down, but is the best camp I've been to basketball wise. The players gave it their all and were very respectful to the adults in the gym. The Class of 2025 is deep in high school basketball. Here are some of the top players:
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER:
He was named such by the camp and I agree. Class of 2025 6'4" combo guard Meleek Thomas of Lincoln Park Performing Arts (Pittsburgh,PA). He came to camp one day late, but made up for lost time. He showed leadership by showing three level scoring ability, making good passes up the court, and pushing the pace with dribbling and passing. He also defended at a high level.Had game high 22 points in Top 30 game. Made Top 30 game. A future pro no matter what school he chooses.
KING OF BOUNCE:
This would be Class of 2025 6'3" combo guard Darrell Brown Jr of West Nottingham Academy (Colora,MD). He's explosive off the bounce with a quick first step to the basket in halfcourt. Pushes it with speed in transiton, and has the bounce to finish over unsuspecting Big's at the rim (WATCH YOUR HEAD!!!!). He also showed a good two dribble mid range jumper, and hit a number of threes the entire camp. Showed a lot of confidence in his abilities on the court. Has great potential as an on ball defender. Made Top 30 game.
PROFESSIONAL SCORERS
There were a few in this camp, but Class of 2026 6'6" wing Jacob Lanier of Maumelle,AR showed big time three level exposive scoring ability. He can create off the dribble or off the catch scoring consistently from three. Has nice dribble moves to get free for his shot whether at the rim, two dribble mid range pull-up. Made it look easy at times in the camp.
TOUNDE YESSOUFOU, 6'6" combo guard, St Joseph (Santa Maria, CA) is another professional scorer who can score from anywhere in the gym. He's not afraid to take a shot off the catch, or creating off the dribble to the basket for a nice Euro step finish at the rim, or step back mid range jump shot. Scores in transition of half court. Top 30 game MVP.
CHICAGO AREA SHOWED OUT:
It has been said the area is down talent wise, but two of the players showed out scoring especially in mid range and from three. Both made Top 30 game with ease. Here they are:
Class of 2025 6'6" wing Bryce Heard of Homewood Flossmoor (IL) was one of the top 5 performers at the entire camp. He was on fire from three, whether off the dribble, or off the catch. Two dribble mid range game was on point. He had a 31 point game and a 28 point game in the camp. He did score on some drives to the rim, but most of his damage was done on the perimeter. Continued from his outstanding performance at the Illinois State Finals in March, helping team to Class 4A State Title.
Class of 2025 6'10" wing Aleks Alston of Kenwood Academy (Chicago) was getting rave reviews from the NBA scouts. They love his profile as a knockdown three point shooter, his long arms, and rangy body. Lefty Serbian sniper was hittting threes off the catch, off the dribble, and step back threes. Showed a nice two dribble mid range jumper, and hit the defensive glass hard. Blocked a few shots off help side. Long range potential is unlimited.
BEST PLAYER THAT MADE TOP 30 GAME AND DIDN'T PLAY:
He got injured the second day, but was playing at a high level and could have been on his way to Camp MVP. Remember this name. Class of 2025 6'8" wing Cameron Ward of Largo (Bowie, MD). He's just gifted in all phases and dominated the first 1.5 days of the camp. He scorers on all three levels, rebounds, makes good passes in halfcourt and outlet passes. Rim protected on defense, pushed the ball in transition, making slick passes to teammates. Barring injury fast track to the pros.
TWO SPORT SUPERSTAR SHOWED HIS BASKETBALL CHOPS HERE:
He's Class of 2025 6'5" wing Cornelius "CJ" Ingram of Hawthorne, FL. Talented King of Bounce on the basketball court as well as very skilled. He can run point or play off the ball. He scores from three, mid range, and has explosive bounce to finish and end lifes at the rim (WATCH YOUR HEAD!!!!). Made Top 60 game. Oh yeah he's also a talented quarterback in football leading his team to two consectutive Florida State titles. Listed as a 3 star athlete and son of former NFL player of the same name. Dad also played both football and basketball at Florida. Will his son do the same?
MINGO BROTHERS OF LONG ISLAND LUTHERAN (NY) SHINED:
Class of 2025 6'3" point guard Kaden Mingo is a big time floor general who can also hit the three at a high level. He made the right plays on offense the entire camp, and jumped passing lanes to get steals. Is explosive off the floor who dunks easily. Made Top 60 game.
Class of 2026 6'5" wing Dylan Mingo is the knock down three point shooter who's explosive enough to attack the rim and finish with exquisite layup package and a dunk. Showed a pretty good mid range game along with on the ball defense. Made Top 30 game.
BIGS THAT SHINED:
Class of 2025 7'1" center Xavion Staton of Sierra Vista (Las Vegas) was the most impressive big man here. He changes ends fast by running the floor for finishes on alley-oops and dunks. Best rim protector here, blocks shots without fouling, jumps straight up with both hands to block shots. Plays good defense in the post, talks to teammates constantly, hits the glass on both ends. Showed a nice jum hook on the block, and can step out to hit three pointers off the catch. Made Top 30 game.
Class of 2025 6'10" center Matt Gilhool of Penn Charter (Philadelphia, PA) can run the floor, score in transition, and step out to hit threes in transtion and halfcourt. Good at hitting that three as the trailer on the fast break or secondary break. Did some rim protecting and hits the boards. Made Top 30 game.
Class of 2025 6'9" forward Jaden Toombs of Dynamic Prep (Dallas, TX) called THE TOOMBS!!!! He's a big bodied player who carves up space in the paint and has the lift to finish strong at the rim. Runs the floor for rim runs and hits the glass on both ends. A rebounding machine. Made Top 30 game.
Class of 2025 7'0" forward Maper Maker of Hillcrest Prep (AZ) is diffrent from these other Bigs. He plays sometimes like a wing bringing the ball up the court and setting up the offense. He can hit threes off transtion and in the halfcourt. He will do some posting up, but does most of his damage off the bounce. Rim protects and hits the defensive glass. Made Top 60 game.
Class of 2026 6'10" center Aliou Dioum of Accelerated Prep (Denver, CO) is a rim protector who changes ends well adn hits both backboards. Scores on rim runs and finishes with dunks. Made Top 60 game.
MICROWAVE THAT CAN HEAT UP ANYTIME FROM THREE:
Class of 2025 6'2" combo guard Kayden Edwards aka "Bugg" of Duncanville (TX) could be like a lighning bug on the court. He's a starter on his high school team and travel team, but can easily be a spark off the bench. He was here by scoring all 23 points in the second half of one game, and scoring all 12 in second half of Top 30 game. He reminds of of Vinnie "Microwave" Johnson of the 1989-1990 repeat champ Detroit Pistons. He could come off the bench and change a game with his scoring. Look him up on YouTube. Edwards reminds me of him in so many ways as both score in a variety of ways. This young man hits threes from the parking lot.
NOT EXACLTY LIKE FATHER LIKE SON:
Class of 2025 6'6" wing Jermaine O'Neal Jr of Dynamic Prep (Dallas,TX) is not like his longtime NBA playing Dad Sr. He's a dynamic athletic wing player who can score from three and with strong finishes at the rim form the wing. He can also defend all three perimeter positions. Dad could score from the wing but was more of an inside force at 6'11"and went from high school to the NBA. Will be interesting to see where his recruitment goes. Made Top 30 game.
