Morton(Cicero) 70 Leo(Chicago) 62: Morton controlled this game throughout on the glass and from the back court. Senior forward Kendell Nichols dominated the proceedings with 21 points 13 rebounds. He really dominated the glass in the fist half and scored on putback in both halves. Junior point guard Jesus Perez had 22 points 8 assists and 3 steals dominating the tempo. He was helped by sophomore guard Eliseo Gonzalez with 9 points 3 assists and 3 steals on 3 for 6 from three. Leo was led by senior forward Kendale Anderson with 19 points and 9 rebounds and 4 steals followed by junior guard LaShaun Glover with 16 points and junior Terrance Ford Jr 15 points 5 assists and 4 steals. Morton ups their record to 7-3 and advances to the quarterfinals. Leo drops to 4-7 and the consolation round.
Hillcrest(Country Club Hills) 68 Hyde Park(Chicago) 62: Junior guard Mar'Keise "Bucky" Irving has been slow to adapt to basketball from football. This was made worse by his ankle injury suffered in the football playoffs. Today he showed he's back into basketball form by taking over late in the third and into the fourth quarter. He scored 7 straight points in a 10-3 run through that stretch of time. It gave Hilcrest enough of an advantage to win by 6. They were not helped by junior forward getting a technical foul in the third quarter, then soon afterward committing another foul. This made it his third and fourth foul with 4:30 to go in the third quarter. He had 14 points when he went out and sat for about 8 minutes. Irving took care of business with him on the bench. Hillcrest had a 10 point lead when he returned to the game. Hillcrest was led by Irving's 18 points and 5 rebounds, followed by Bowers 17 points and 16 rebounds. Junior forward Julius Rollins had 13 points and 12 rebounds, and junior guard Kenton Wright's 10 points. Hyde Park was led by junior guard Jalen Houston with 20 points followed by sophomore guard Mikey Brown's 13 points and sophomore guard Vernon Henry's 10. Hyde Park was outrebounded 59-46. Hillcrest ups their record to 7-4 and moves onto the quarterfinals. Hyde Park drops to 8-2 and the consolation bracket.
Uplift(Chicago) 62 Proviso West(Hillside) 58: Uplift controlled this game from the beginning as Proviso West never led. Uplift was led by senior forward Kymeon Mayo with 22 points 14 rebounds 5 steals and 2 blocks. Senior guard Taijay Brown had 17 points 6 rebounds 5 assists and 2 steals, followed by senior guard Fernando Alvarez-May's 11 points. Junior forward Josh Doxie-Simmons had 21 points 6 rebounds, and junior center Sion Holman had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Proviso West. Uplift moves its record to 6-7 and moves onto the quarterfinals, while Porivso West drops to 1-6 and the consolation round.
Fenwick(Oak Park) 69 Larkin(Elgin) 56: Fenwick stars junior forward Bryce Hopkins and sophomore guard Trey Pettigrew did not shoot well in this game. They went a combined 0 for 8 from three point range in this game. They still won as Hopkins scored at will on the interior, and Pettigrew went 2 for 10 for 5 points. His match up with fellow Larkin sophomore Damari Wheeler-Thomas was a very good one. Thomas ended up with 21 points and 4 rebound though he was in foul trouble most of the game. Hopkins ended up with 28 points 15 rebounds and was helped by sophomore guard/forward Max Reese with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Sophomore guard Eian Pugh rounded out the double digit scoring for Fenwick with 12 points. Senior forward Jashon Johnson-Neals was the only other Larkin player in double figures with 12 points and 4 assists. Fenwick moves to 10-1 and moves into the quarterfinals, while Larkin drops to 1-10 and the consolation round.
