I was there most of the two days. It was a great cause and I thank Coach Carlos Enriquez the organizer and of course Head Coach Lou Adams. It was great hospitality as always as Mr Adams is a great Chef as well as basketball coach. This is close to Coach Enrirquez's heart as he lost his wife to cancer. It gets better and better every year with some great matchups, and giving under the radar teams a little spotlight. My first look at big time sophomore Tayshawn Bridges of Milwaukee Academy and Science(WI). I'll talk more about him in a bit. Here we go:
Saturday:
North Lawndale College Prep beats Proviso East as senior Vincent Mayes had a huge game dominating the interior. He had 17 points 18 rebounds(double double) and 7 blocks. Junior Diamonte Meeks had 17 points 6 rebounds and 6 assists in a losing cause.
Cardinal Ritter(St Louis,MO) beats #7 Curie(Chicago) in overtime. There was some controversy as they missed a point in regulation for Cardinal Ritter. They did end up winning the game but that could have been crazy ugly. Senior forward Robert Lewis of Cardinal Ritter had himself a GAME!!!!! He had a double double with 30 points 18 rebounds along with 3 blocks. Sophomore Clayton Jackson had 11 points, senior Braxton Stacker had 11 points 7 rebounds 2 steals and 2 blocks. Senior guard Cam Lawin had 29 points in win over Confluence(MO).
Sunday:
Longwood(Chicago) 61 Danville 48
6'3" senior guard Terrence Jones is a stat sheet stuffer. Can play either guard position and gets steals in zone or man to man defense. Scored on all three levels today. Had a double/double of 20 points 10 rebounds with 4 assists and 2 steals. 6'6" sophomore forward Jeremiah Johnson looks like a future star. He had 15 points 3 rebounds with a three. Danville showcased 6'2" freshman guard JaVaughn Robinson who had 8 points on 2 three pointers and is a young player with a bright future. Senior Martez Rhodes had 11 points and junior Jonathan Ireland had 10 off the bench.
Taft(Chicago) 64 St Joe Ogden 35
The downstate Illinois team brought big time 6'6" junior guard Ty Pence with them. Taft did not care as they proceeded to put a hurting on them to make for an unpleasant visit. Pence had a nice big time monster dunk(WATCH YOUR HEAD) https://twitter.com/h00phighlights1/status/1487986391468462087 and two other dunks. Otherwise it was a nightmare appearance for him with 13 points and 4 rebounds. Let's talk about the winning team Taft. They had contributions from a number of players. Senior Adrian Pelszynski(6'3") with 12 points 6 rebounds, senior Gideon Adewole(6'3") 15 points 6 rebounds. Junior Armin Aliloski(6'3") had 10 points 8 rebounds.
Hyde Park(Chicago) 68 Milwaukee Academy of Sciences(WI) 62.
6'0" senior guard Davontae Hall showed again why he is one of the most underrated players in Chicago Public League Red Conference. He had 21 points 3 assists and 2 steals in win. 6'5" junior forward was a beast with 15 points 5 rebounds. This was my first look at MAS's 6'2" sophomore point guard Tayshawn Bridges https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtzXitKWSMU. I had heard about his middle school exploits but this was my first live action of him. HE IS RIDICULOUS!!!!!! He came off the bench and did not do much in the first half. But WHAT A SECOND HALF!!!!! The light turned on and no one could stop him from getting to the basket. He has a great first step and is strong enough to finish through contact. He had 21 points 5 rebounds 4 assists 3 steals and 2 blocks. Stat sheet stuffer and a great passer off penetration. One to watch in the future. Milwaukee!!!!!! Take care of this young man and help cultivate his talent. He's definitely worth the price of admission. Should be nationally ranked. Rankings malpractice big time from the national folks not ranking him. 6'6" freshman forward Davion Hannah had a double/double 11 points 12 rebounds and 3 blocks for MAS.
Batavia 62 Lincoln Park(Chicago) 60.
Game went down to the wire and a game winning three by 5'11" senior point guard Trenton Tousana decided it. Lincoln Park 6'3" senior guard Chris Hammonds had a chance t win it with a three at the buzzer, but missed. 6'7" senior forward Ethan Ivan was a man amongst boys out there. He had 29 points 4 rebounds for Batavia. Tousana ended up with 22 points for the winners. Hammonds had 22 points on 5 threes and 6 steals for Lincoln Park. 6'3" senior guard Chikere Nwosu 21 points 7 rebounds. Lincoln Park has two young freshman studs to watch in the future. 6'9" center Keyshawn Barfield and 5'10" point guard Vincent Kelly. Ones to watch.
WHAT A GAME!!!!!! THE GAME OF THE DAY AND OF THE WEEKEND!!!!! This was back and forth punch for punch by both teams. Wheaton Warrenville South had the chance at the last punch but 6'7" junior forward Darrion Baker said NO NO NO with the game winning block of 6'5" junior forward Braylen Meredith at the buzzer to preserve the win for the Hawks. Both of these teams are well coached and was a pleasure to watch this game. Best I've seen in awhile. 5'10" sophomore guard Isaiah Green made some big plays down the stretch scoring and dishing off assists on penetration. He had 11 points on 3 three pointers, junior forward Matt Moore had 11 points 4 rebounds. 5'9" junior point guard Bryce "Diggy" Tillery had 12 points 3 assists for the Hawks. 6'5" senior forward Tyler Fawcett did it all for Wheaton Warrenville South. He had 20 points 2 assists 2 steals. 6'0" point guard Danny Healy had 7 assists for the Tigers.
