Regional Doubleheader at Lemont!!! Lemont breezes against Thornton Township! Morgan Park (Chicago) beats Agricultural Science (Chicago) shorthanded! Milestones and top performances in state tonight!!!

One was a blowout, the other was close till winning team pulled away in last two minutes. State playoffs started in full swing tonight. A lot of big time performances, a 50 point triple double by a sophomore!!!! 41 point performance by a 5'6" player!!!!! Here we go:




GAME 1:


Lemont 70 Thornton Township (Harvey) 40:



Lemont is known for their cheerleaders and football. Cheerleaders are reigning state champs and have done well consistently over the years. Basketball was on the docket tonight. Junior Gabe Sukarski of Lemont was doing whatever he wanted most of the game. He was keeping pace with Thornton scoring by himself for a long time in the game. Thornton Township (Harvey) gave a great effort but wasn't to be.



First quarter:


Lemont took over this game from the beginning leading from start to finish. Sularski had 6 points in the quarter and led 14-8 at the end of one. Thornton still felt they had a chance at this point.



Second quarter:


Lemont started pushing it out and taking over the game though they only outscored Thornton 13-11 in the quarter. Sularki had another 11 points in the quarter for 17 at the half. Jordan Maple in his final high school game had 5 points in the quarter. Lemont led 27-19 at the half.



Third quarter:


Lemont pretty much ended the game with a 22 point quarter and more of Sularski. He scored 9 points in the quarter. Thornton only scored 11. Matas Gaidukevicius of Lemont had 8 points in the quarter. Lemont led 49-30 at the end of three. Game over.



Fourth quarter:


Lemont extended the lead even when the reserves came in and got to a 30 point running clock with about 2 minutes left in the game.

Lemont advances to Class 3A Regional Final vs Morgan Park (Chicago) on Friday with a 24-7 record


Thornton Township (Harvey) ends season at 9-21.





GAME 2:


Morgan Park (Chicago) 45 Agricultural Science (Chicago) 32:


Morgan Park was down 4 players since losing in the Chicago Public League White Title game to Gwendolyn Brooks (Chicago). Their top player junior Nasir Rankin was not at the game (undisclosed). Agricultural Science was a 7 seed, Morgan Park was a 10 seed. They did not care, The players came out with a purpose and gave a great effort for the win.


First quarter:


Agricultural Science came out firing. Senior star Chris Cole had 7 points on 3/5 shooting in the quarter. Morgan Park could not get anything going offensively in the quarter. They shot 3 for 16 for the quarter to fall behind 16-8.



Second quarter:



Cole got in foul trouble and sat half the quarter with 2 fouls. Agricultural Science did well and kept the lead though they only scored 8 points in the quarter. Morgan Park started hitting the glass but had problems converting at the free throw line. They shot 3 for 9 from the line in the quarter. They outscored Agricultural Science 11-8 to only trail 24-19 at the half.



Third quarter:


Agricultural Science could not hit the broad side of a barn. Combined with Morgan Park blocking shots in the lane. They did not score till the last thirty seconds of the quarter. Cole came out the second half and never got a rhythm though he hit a 25 foot bank three pointer at the quarter buzzer. Morgan Park scored only 10 points themselves in the quarter. Agricultural Science shot 2 for 11 for the quarter for 6 points. Morgan Park wasn't much better at 4 for 11. Agricultural Science still led 30-29 at the end of the quarter.



Fourth quarter:


Morgan Park took over in the quarter with their box and one defense on Cole and senior Bryan McGill didn't want his career to end for Morgan Park. He had 7 points in the quarter as Agricultural Science only scored 2 points the entire quarter and 8 the enitre second half. Turnovers and bad shots did them in. They shot 1 for 13 in the fourth. Morgan Park shot 6 for 7 in the quarter for 16 points for the final margin.
