Riverside Brookfield finally gets a win when I am in attendance. Coach Mike Reingruber joked with me this summer that they never win when I come to one of their games. We were talking high school season not the summer. I think the record was 0-6 or something like that. Well they picked up a win tonight (barely) in overtime and clinched an unbeaten season in the Metro Suburban Blue.
Riverside Brookfield 67 Christian (Aurora) 62 Overtime: I went to this game last year near the end of the season and Aurora Christian came out with a win. Not this time as Riverside Brookfield came back from an 8 point halftime deficit to win it. I was told the first game was triple overtime in Aurora. This one took extra time too, just not as long. Here's some top players in the game:
STEFAN CICIC A DOUBLE/DOUBLE: The 6'11" junior Riverside Brookfield big man ended up with 25 points 13 rebounds on 8 for 11 from two point range, 0 for 1 from three, and 7 for 8 from the free throw line. Ran the floor well and grabbed 4 offensive rebounds. Made a couple of dunks and spin moves in the paint. Looks ready to be dominant for the playoff run.
WILL GONZALEZ A DOUBLE/DOUBLE: 6'5" junior Riverside Brookfield point guard ended up with 13 points and 10 assists with 4 rebounds 2 assists and 3 blocks. He hit 4 straight free throws in the last 15 seconds of overtime to put the game away. He was 6 for 6 from the free throw line and 3 of 8 shooting.
ARIUS ALIJOSIUS HAD AN AVERAGE SHOOTING NIGHT: 6'3" senior Riverside Brookfield guard Winona State commit had an average shooting night for him as he was 4 for 11 from three point range for his 12 points. He did other things tonight like having a steal, a block, and other things that don't show up in the statistics. Broke single season school record for three pointers tonight. Congratulations.
MARSHAWN COCROFT HAS A BRIGHT FUTURE: 5'10" freshman point guard (YES HE'S A FRESHMAN) for Christian (Aurora) is quick as a mouse. He showed tonight he can get where he wants on the court. He had 17 points on 7 for 14 from two and 0 for 1 from three. He scored all of his baskets in the lane, off the dribble, finishing at the rim, and mid range pull-up jumpers. If he shows an effective three point shot moving forward LOOK OUT!!!!!
BRAYDEN HATCH HAD A COLD SHOOTING NIGHT: 6'3" senior guard for Christian (Aurora) did not have his best shooting night, but hit some shots to keep it close. He had 13 points on 4 for 13 shooting, 1 for 6 from three. He hit 5 for 8 from the free throw line to support Cocroft.
Riverside Brookfield ends the regular season at 25-5, 12-0 in conference play. Christian (Aurora) drops to 18-11, 5-6 in conference.
