This is my first time at the event. It was the 29th annual and benefits coaches vs cancer. School is located just outside the Captial city of Illinois. Great gym, great atmosphere, and the basketball program has made numerous appearances in the state finals. Two overtime games, one buzzer beater, and two top players in their class went at it. ere we go:

RIVERTON PLAYER OVERSHADOWS 3000 POINT SCORER:

The perfomance of the event was not by senior guard Nathaniel Marlow (#31) of Webber Township but by junior Julian Rice (#5) of Riverton. Marlow just scored his 3000th point in his last game scoring 51 points. He put on a show here as well with 31 points (7/10 2PT, 3/10 3PT, 8/11 FT) 5 rebounds and 6 steals. Rice went for 43 points (7/11 2PT, 8/15 3PT, 5/8 FT) and 6 steals. He scored big threes to bring his team back and get the lead in the win. Rice was player of the game. Teammate Jaxsen Trager,(#34) a 6'2" forward has a football body but moves very well. Gets to his spots off the bounce, and makes nice passes as he did in this one. Hit a couple of big threes late in the fourth quarter for the win. Scored 21 points (4/5 2PT, 3/6 3PT, 3/3 FT) 3 steals. Younger brother Jacob Marlow (#10) ended up with 19 points (3/8 2PT, 1/1 3PT, 3/6 FT) 1 steal 1 block.

PLAYER OF THE GAME KEYSHAUN MANNEY OF CENTRAL CATHOLIC (BLOOMINGTON) OUTLASTS COOPER KNOWLES TO BEAT WEST HANCOCK (WARSAW):

This one went into overtime. Manney (6'1") (#1), a Top 5 junior point guard used his quickness to get to the rim, and pull-up mid range jumpers to score. He hit a couple over Knowles (6'10" forward), an elite shot blocker, Knowles (#22) finished through contact, and made shots in the lane shooting over and around defenders. Rim protection was sublime as he had 5 blocks and countless altered shots. Manney late in regulation and overtime found teammates for layups off penetration to the lane. Knowles scored on a halfcourt pass and layup at the buzzer in regulation. Senior Elon Kohn (#2) got a couple of big offensive rebounds (3) and baskets (3) late in regulation and overtime. Game turned when junior Hunter Froman of West Hancock (Warsaw) fouled out of the game. Manney ended up with 28 points (9/16 2PT, 1/9 3PT, 7/8 FT) 9 rebounds 6 assists 3 steals filling the stat sheet. Knowles ended up with a monster double/double 28 points (12/17 FG, 0/2 3PT, 4/7 FT) 18 rebounds 3 assists 2 steals 5 blocks. Made some nice passes to teammates who didn't convert a few of them. Froman had 17 points (4/12 2PT, 3/10 3PT) 2 steals.

PLAYER OF THE GAME GARRETT TIMM OF WILLIAMSVILLE BREAKS BYRON'S HEART WITH LAST SECOND THREE POINT SHOT AT OVERTIME BUZZER:

This was a back and forth game, as senior star Cason Newton of Byron couldn't buy a basket. He was 2/11 from three and made both of them late in 4th quarter and overtime. He also made big plays late to give his team leads or tie the game. A couple of steals and assists put the game into overtime. Newton had 15 points (3/8 2PT, 2/11/3PT, 3/3 FT) 4 steals 1 block. Byron missed a couple of free throws in overtime to have them up two. Williamsville passed it around and got it to Timm (#23), who had two guys jump at him. He took two side dribbles to the right, pulled up from 23 feet at the buzzer. Bottoms and Williamsville had a dramatic one point win. Timm ended up with 27 points (7/13 2PT, 4/7 3PT, 1/1 FT) 8 rebounds 2 steals. Senior Illinois football commit Caden Considine (#33) of Byron had 11 points 5 rebounds 2 steals. Senior forward Jackson Sanders had 11 points (4/6 2PT, 3/3 FT) 1 steal 1 block.

CARLINVILLE BEATS PLEASANT PLAINS:

Player of the game was senior guard Tate Duckels (#15) of Carlinville with 15 points (6/9 2PT, 1/3 3PT, 0/2 FT) in win.

Senior forward Sawyer Smith of Carlinville with 11 points (3/4 3PT, 1/4 3PT, 2/2 FT) 10 rebounds (double/double) 4 steals

Senior guard Owen Johnson led Pleasant Plains with 18 points (1/4 2PT, 4/11 3PT, 4/4 FT) 12 rebounds (double/double)

WOODLAWN BEATS EASTLAND (LANARK):

Player of the game was junior guard Luke McKay of Woodlawn with 17 points (2/8 2PT, 4/4 3PT, 1/2 FT) 5 rebounds 2 blocks

Senior wing Parker Krogman led Eastland (Lanark) with 19 points (7/15 2PT, 1/2 3PT, 2/2 FT) 5 rebounds 2 steals 1 block

WALTONVILLE DYNAMIC DUO TAKES DOWN ST JOE OGDEN:

Waltonville is a threat to win Class 1A. I don't know if any team in that class has an inside 1/2 punch of senior Player of The Game Gage Peterson (#23), and junior Jagger Mayville (#35). Peterson scored inside/ and out hitting 3 threes before turning his ankle in the third quarter. It limited him the rest of the game though his team had it well in hand. Peterson ended up with 15 points (3/6 2PT, 3/3 3PT) 8 rebounds 1 steal 4 blocks. Mayville is a lefty who attacked the rim driving left and scored most of the time. He scored 16 points (7/12 2PT, 2/2 FT) 5 rebounds 2 steals 1 block. Junior point guard Witten Devor (#1) runs the show and gets the ball to the scorers but can score himself from three, or in the paint. He scored 10 points (3/7 2PT, 1/1 3PT, 1/3 FT) 5 rebounds. St Joe Ogden was led by senior forward Parker Fitch with 15 points (3/7 2PT, 3/5 3PT) 5 rebounds.
