Last time Rolling Meadows won Mid Suburban Title was 2021, Max Christie's senior year. Was favored the last three seasons as the favorite. It was a team from Palatine this time but it was rival Fremd. Here we go:
Marquette commit Ian Militec of Rolling Meadows wanted this one. He's been on the varsity for four years and been a part of three consecutive losses in the Mid Suburban Title game. He was named Mid Suburban East Player of The Year. He was very efficient tonight in scoring the basketball. He had help from fellow seniors Gavin Escobedo and Lazar Lazarevic off the bench.
First quarter:
Rollng Meadows was on fire. They led the game from start to finish. They hit 4 for 5 from three in the quarter as a team. Militec had 7 points in the quarter, senior Patrick Coen had 7 himself. Rolling Meadows took a 22-15 lead into the second quarter.
Second quarter:
Both teams put point on the board. Junior Jordan Williams of Fremd (Palatine) had 4 in the quarter, Ryan Brown had 5. Militec put up 5 more for 12 in the half. Lazarevic came off the bench to score 5 along with Escobedo hitting 5. Militec missed a three at the end of the quarter, that was rebounded by senior teammate Kenan Pekovic and put back right at the halftime buzzer. Rolling Meadows led 41-32 at half.
Third quarter:
Scoring slowed down as both teams went cold but Rolling Meadows maintained a healthy double digit lead. They outscored Fremd 13-11 for a 54-43 lead at the end of three.
Fourth quarter:
Rolling Meadows was deliberate with their offense and Fremd got as close as 6 points but Meadows kept them at bay with timely baskets. Fremd upped the pressure with traps and a full court press, but Rolling Meadows ball movement and senior leadership found openings and layups. They withstood an outstanding fourth quarter by Williams who scored 12 of his 18 points in the period.
