Sleeper Prospect of the Week Volume 1: Orlando Thomas of Rolling Meadows!!!!!

Orlando Thomas 6'4" senior combo guard, Rolling Meadows

First in a long line starts with Orlando Thomas. A Class of 2022 guard, he's been in the starting lineup at Rolling Meadows since his sophomore year. He's been between the Christie brothers, McDonald's All-American Max Jr, and junior Cameron. He has grown 4 inches since his sophomore year. Started out as a corner shooter and has developed into a prospect that can play on or off the ball.

OFFENSE: Long lefty point guard, projectable size to play either guard position. Started out as a sophomore as just a 6'0" corner shooter only. He has developed into a player who can hit shots from all over the three point line. Can score off the dribble, or as a spot up shooter. Has become a good enough ball handler to play point and run the offense. He gets to the basket and finishes strong with the left. Can be turnover prone at times as this is his first season running the point guard position. Still getting used to his body as he has had a rapid growth spurt. Nice spin move to get around defenders on the perimeter. Can handle the ball with either hand is not as left handed dominant as one would think. Good strength as a guard and has some quickness and good first step going to the basket. Good mid range pull-up jump shot.

DEFENSE: Very good defender the ball, gets up into you on man to man pressure. Long arms gets his hands on a lot of balls with deflections. Moves his feet and communicates in the zone defense. Rebounds well for his position especially now being 6'4". Above average athlete gets more than a few blocked shots off help side defense. Can get lost at times ball watching off the ball.

CONCLUSION: Mid to low major division one prospect. I think a lot of colleges have not seen him enough at the point, but he has the size and shooting ability to play off the ball. Versatile guard who is very good at both ends of the court. Game is growing rapidly and would be a steal for a program like Loyola Chicago, Valparaiso, Old Dominion, Illinois Chicago. He has the ability to play at any of those programs. Get out to a Rolling Meadows game this season. He played travel ball for Fundamental U. Oh yes he's a high academic young man and a academic qualifier with no sweat.
