Spot-Liters MLK Shootout Top performers:

Larry Butler put on another great display of teams and underrated talent in the showcase at Hyde Park Career Academy on Chicago's Southside. Here we go:





Larry Carthan, Julian (Chicago): 6'7" senior forward did a little bit of everything in the game against Antioch. He had 21 points and 9 rebounds in the game. Runs the floor well and was effective off the bounce and finishing at the basket. Good at drawing fouls hitting 8 of 11 from the free throw line. Hit a three. Can defend all front court positions.


Carter Webb, Antioch: 6'2" junior combo guard was in his bag from three point range in win over Julian (Chicago). He hit 6 of 11 from three point range for 22 points. Very good off the catch and shoot with great balance going straight up and down on his jumper.


Malcolm Morris, Urbana: 6'7" junior forward just owned the paint in this game with 12 points in blowout win over Vocational (Chicago). He scored over his left and right shoulder in the paint area. Good hands to catch passes in the post and knows how to use his body to get space.


Emmanuel Jones, Urbana: 6'0" junior guard had 10 points on 2 of 2 from three and attacking the basket on the break and in the half court. Had 2 steals in blowout win over Vocational (Chicago).


Al Brooks Jr, Hansberry College Prep (Chicago): 6'6" sophomore wing is one of the top young unknown prospects in the state. He had a double/double of 21 points and 10 rebounds and 3 blocks while fighting foul trouble against Central (Plainfield). Slasher extraordinaire getting to the basket on Euro step finishes. Can take it coast to coast and finish at the rim and was good at mid range jump shots. Plays in Noble League Blue Division.


Ikee Brooks, Hansberry College Prep (Chicago): 6'0" sophomore combo guard teams up with his brother Al Jr to make a devastating one/two punch. He attacked the basket and scored 14 points and 5 assists in this game against Central (Plainfield).


Deandre Henley, Hansberry College Prep (Chicago): 6'2" forward is undersized but was very effective posting up in the paint, or slashing to the basket and finishing strong. Had 18 points 8 rebounds and hit a three against Central (Plainfield).


Quinn Krueger, Central (Plainfield): 6'1" junior guard had 14 points 4 of 8 from the field, 2 of 2 from three int he win against Hansberry College Prep (Chicago). Set up teammates and had a lot of hockey assists though his assist total was 2.


Tristiian Saunders, Central (Plainfield): 6'2" sophomore is another unknown young prospect in the state. He has some bounce off the floor and can shoot threes. He had 13 points and 2 steals. He drew a lot of fouls in win against Hansberry College Prep (Chicago) with 6 of 8 from the free throw line. A talent to watch in the future.


Avery Rogoz, Central (Plainfield): 6'3" junior wing was a rebounding machine in this game a win over Hansberry College Prep (Chicago). He had 13 rebounds to go with his 7 points and showed some bounce with a nice two hand dunk off vertical.


Jordan Woods, Central (Hammond, Indiana): 6'3" point guard is an Eastern Illinois football commit. Showed a lot of quickness with his hands with 6 steals to go along with 14 points and 4 assists. He was 6 of 10 from the floor, 1 for 2 from three in win over Dyett (Chicago).


Matthew King, Central (Hammond, Indiana): 6'1" junior guard had 17 points on 6 of 9 from the floor, 3 of 5 from three and 3 assists. Showed a nice shooting stroke on catch and shoot three pointers.


Kenneth Grant, Central (Hammond, Indiana): 6'0" forward shows a nice stroke from three as he was 3 of 6 from that territory. He had 11 points and 3 rebounds showing nice catch and shoot ability.


Justin Pickens, Farragut Career Academy (Chicago): 6'5" senior forward is a King of Bounce that caught a couple of alley-top dunks in this game putting his head on the rim. Athleticism is off the charts. He had 13 points in this game a win over Oak Park River Forest.


Jonathan Calmese, Farragut Career Academy (Chicago): 6'1" junior point guard had his three point shot going in this game a win over Oak Park River Forest. He hit 4 of 7 from three and had 24 points 5 assists 3 steals and 1 block. When his jumper is going in he's tough to deal with especially off the bounce.


Latrell Kelly, Farragut Career Academy (Chicago): 6'0" freshman combo guard proves with every performance he's one of the top first year high school players in the state. Played with great pace once again did not force a lot of plays. He had 13 points and attacked the basket with 4 of 6 from the free throw line all in the second half. Gets into the lane off the bounce at will.


Justin Bowen Jr, Oak Park River Forest: 6'5" sophomore wing showed his versatility on both ends of the court. Played extremely hard with tons of energy in this game against Farragut Career Academy (Chicago). He had 10 points 10 rebounds (double/double) 3 assists and one steal. Improving three point shot though he was 0 of 2 in this game. Attacks the basket strong off the bounce and is improving with every game.


Alex Gossett, Oak Park River Forest: 6'5' sophomore wing is a versatile player who can hit threes and post up and score in the paint. Showed both in this game against Farragut Career Academy (Chicago). He had 14 points on 2 of 3 from three 5 rebounds and three assists. Bright future.


Rodney Murphy, Oak Park River Forest: 6'4" senior wing was aggressive battling in the paint in game against Farragut Career Academy (Chicago). He had 19 points 8 rebounds in this game scoring a lot of his baskets in the paint. He slashed to the basket and scored on offensive rebounds.



Chayse Turner, Lincoln Park (Chicago): 6'3" sophomore wing came off the bench and showed a lot of energy on both ends of the court. He's a big time slasher and finisher at the rim. The lefty had 15 points and 3 steals against Hyde Park Academy (Chicago). Another young player to watch in the future.


Myan Whitfield, Lincoln Park Chicago): 6'0" senior combo guard had 15 points attacking the basket and getting to the free throw line. He was 11 of 11 from the free throw line against Hyde Park Academy (Chicago).


Jalen Calloway, Lincoln Park (Chicago): 6'2" senior combo guard had 18 points and 3 steals against Hyde Park Academy (Chicago). Scored attacking the basket on finishes at the rim and got to the free throw line. He was 5 of 5 from the free throw line.


Camron Wiliford, Hyde Park Academy (Chicago): 6'1" senior point guard continues to show he's one of the most underrated guards in the state of Illinois. He had 21 points 7 assists and 4 steals in the win against Lincoln Park (Chicago). Filled out the stat sheet hitting 4 of 5 from three and 5 of 9 from the free throw line.


Damarion Morris, Hyde Park Academy (Chicago): 5'10"senior point guard helped put his backcourt partner with 18 points 4 assists and 3 steals. He was 9 of 12 from the free throw line in win over Lincoln Park (Chicago).


Jurrell Baldwin, Hyde Park Academy (Chicago) : 6'6" junior wing had another double/double with 17 points and 11 rebounds in win against Lincoln Park (Chicago). Versatile inside/out talent though his three pointer was off in this game. Rim protects on the defensive end though he recorded 1 blocked shot.
