Chicago Catholic League battle. St Laurence is a young team, but Mount Carmel is younger and that was the difference in the game. 5 seed beats 4 seed on neutral court. Here we go:

#5 seed St Laurence (Burbank) 63 #4 seed Mount Carmel (Chicago) 59:

HINSDALE CENTRAL:

Two young teams going at it. St Laurence starts two juniors, and three sophomores. Mount Carmel starts one freshman, one sophomore, one junior, and two seniors. Peoples was dominant in the paint though he played with 4 fouls most of the fourth quarter. First quarter ended with junior Logan Wessel hitting a 3/4 court three pointer at the buzzer to cut St Laurence lead to 20-13. St Laurence was still in control leading 35-24 at recess. They still led 47-39 at the end of three. Mount Carmel with their freshman duo of Ronald Johnson and DK Heard, who came off the bench crashing the offensive glass and getting put backs helped cut the lead down to three. Sophomore Noah Corro hits a couple of key mid range jumpers down the stretch. Mount Carmel cut it back to three. Then Johnson, got a steal, finished off a pass from junior Reggie Stevens, got another steal, then hit a dagger three to put the lead from three to six with 1:50 to go. Wessel then hit a shot in the lane to cut it to four. They had three fouls to give which took some time off the clock. St Laurence hit enough free throws to fend off the Caravan. Johnson's cluth play off the bench as he transferred from Class 2A State Champion Dyett (Chicago) and used that experience to help the Vikings advance.

St Laurence (Burbank) ups it's record to 27-6 and advances to Mount Carmel (Sectional) vs #1 seed Curie (Chicago) on Tuesday.

Mount Carmel (Chicago) ends season at 19-12 with a promising future led by Johnson, Heard, and sophomore two sport star Marshaun Thornton.
