Regular season ended today, IHSA State Playoffs start on Monday. This was an entertaining game and give credit to Pecatonica for challening themselves on the road. Also credit to St Laurence (Burbank) for taking the game. Great thing that came out of this is no one got hurt right before the playoffs. Here we go:
St Laurence (Burbank) 75 Pecatonica 48:
Pecatonica was undefeated till last week when they travelled on the road and lost to tough one to Neuqua Valley (Naperville) which is a Class 4A school. St Laurence (Burbank) is #2 in Class 3A and #12 in Big Tim's Chicago A area rankings. They are a threat to win Class 3A as is Pecatonica in Class 1A.
First quarter:
St Laurence really had no trouble from the start as they kept attacking off the dribble with straight line drives finishing at the rim, getting a foul, or both. St Laurence also hit 3 threes in the quarter on 6 attempts. Sophomore Markese Peoples had 6 quick points on drives from the free throw line. He got the ball at that point and attacked off the bounce in two dribbles and scored. Pecatonica sophomore Zion Braimah was aggressive looking for his offense. Scored 6 points on 4 shots in the quarter. St Laurence led 25-15 after one quarter.
Second quarter: St Laurence really put it away with their defense only allowing Pecatonica 6 points in the quarter on 9 shots. Senior Zerrick Johnson of St Laurence started scoring on attacking drives off the bounce to the rim. Totaled 6 points in the quarter. Peoples scored another 5 points as St Laurence scoed 15 in the quarter for a 40-21 lead.
Third quarter:
Pecatonica picked it up a bit scoring with an 11 point quarter. Problem is St Laurence scored 18 with Johnson scoring 6 more in the quarter. Meanwhile senior Purdue Fort Wayne commit EJ Mosley of St Laurence was handing out assists like candy. Ended up with 7 helpers. Pecatonica shot 5 of 16 for the quarter.
Fourth quarter:
Mostly reserves played as the game was out of reach and to keep the top players from getting injured this close to the playoffs.

St Laurence (Burbank) goes into Class 3A playoffs upping it's record to 26-5 and Chicago Catholic League White Division Champs.
Pecatonica goes into Class 1A playoffs dropping to 29-2 and one of the favorites to win the title. Hosting a Sectional.
