I was at two very good games today. One was an overtime game, the other a ball rolled around the rim and out that could have sent game into overtime. Also there was a ESPN Sportcenter Top 10 play nominee in that game.
Oak Lawn 80 #20 Riverside Brookfield 70 Overtime. Riverside Brookfield scored only 3 points in overtime. Oak Lawn tied the game with 5 seconds left on an inbound pass from 5'9" senior point guard Nicco Reyes to 6'6" senior forward Davion Lawrence. I think Riverside Brookfield may not want me at any more of their games. They are 0-2 in games that I have attended this year. One of their stars senior wing Joevonn McCottry was in foul trouble the entire game, and ended up fouling out in regulation. Reyes had 5 threes in the first half on his way to 28 points 5 rebounds 4 assists. Lawrence had a double double of 23 points 10 rebounds. Senior guard John McGowan was the other player in double figures with 12 points all in the second half and overtime. Senior guard Joe Gilhooley 23 points 4 rebounds 4 assists, senior JP Hanley 21 points 7 rebounds 4 assists 2 steals for Riverside Brookfield.
Willowbrook 79 Proviso East 77. It's hard to beat a good team three times. Proviso East was trying to do it and almost did. This game had a ESPN Sportscenter Top 10 play nominee by senior Dakari Presley at end of the first half: https://twitter.com/tdc200/status/1492686803480068106?s=21&fbclid=IwAR3t7UVYJPvpEYFsv0jsOuK0jWrSiOD950v6MQ6BSAFQDZHjtfVIhEP-koE. Junior Joey Tumilty hits a free throw to go up two, Proviso East comes down and Presley misses the shot, senior guard Javon Johnson tips the ball for the tie. It rolls a couple of times on the rim, goes around(most of us thought it was in and we'd have overtime), and rolls off. Willowbrook students rush the floor to celebrate and waves bye bye to the Proviso East players. This must be a bigger rivalry than I thought. 6'1" senior forward Evan Stubblefield had a double double 24 points 10 rebounds. He's a football prospect but can play some basketball. 6'1" point guard Marquel Saleek had 19 points 5 rebounds and 3 steals for Willowbrook before fouling out with 3 minutes left in the fourth quarter. 5'10" junior point guard Noah Campbell had 15 points 5 rebounds and 3 steals before fouling out with a minute left. Proviso East was led by Presley with 20 points and 5 steals. Add 6'3" point guard Jaloni Johnson to the top junior guards in Illinois list. He had 19 points 5 rebounds 2 steals and 3 blocks for the Pirates. Number 30 could find no name for him had 11 points 7 rebounds and 3 steals in loss.
