Superlatives from Chicago Area High School Basketball tonight!!!!!!

Writer's picture: Big TimBig Tim

Have to start out with the massive upset at Northwestern University. I've said Evanston Township vs #4 New Trier is the best rivalry in the state of Illinois. Tonight proved it more and more as the Wildcats pulled off the upset 62-55 in Bob Bost Classic as senior David Gieser had 17 points and 3 three pointers. Evanston was 10 of 13 from the line while New Trier was 5 of 14. This might have dropped New Trier out of the 1 seed in the Glenbrook South sectional which is huge. Rolling Meadows is the other team in that top 3, and you don't want to have to go through two of those three.

Meanwhile I was at the Lions Den in the small band box gym of #6 Leo Catholic. That is a great atmosphere as they were rude hosts to #9 Brother Rice. They led most of the game with largest lead of 11. Brother Rice brought it to within two a couple of times but ended up winning 56-50. Leo Catholic ended up with 18 steals in the game and stuck up Brother Rice junior point guard star Ahmad Henderson II pretty good. I counted 4 turnovers for the game. He ended up with 9 points 4 rebounds and only 1 assist. For Leo, junior guard JaKeem Cole announced himself into that great group of point guards in the Chicago Area with 22 points 4 rebounds. Junior guard Tyler Smith had 19 points 4 assists 3 steals. Junior guard Peter McShane led Brother Rice with 16 points 4 rebounds. Leo Catholic is still undefeated in the Chicago Catholic League along with St Rita. A big threat to dethrone Orr Academy for the Class 2A State title.

#1 wins in another blowout in preparation for Sierra Canyon(CA) tomorrow night. Senior Gonzaga commit Braden Huff 15 points, Bobby Durkin 14, Illinois walk-on commit Paxton Warden 13.
