Superlatives in Chicago Area High School Basketball tonight!!!!

Writer's picture: Big TimBig Tim

Sectional Pairings came out tonight. I'll go over the intriguing possible Sectional and Regional matchups in the next few days.

Chicago Public League Semifinals:

#14 Curie 71 #3 Simeon Career Academy 64: Simeon had beaten Curie twice this season. It's hard to beat a good team three times. Simeon may have come in overconfident against their fellow Red South Central foe. What a recovery from the Condors. Saturday they got blown out by #2 Glenbrook South(Glenview) at Chipotle Champions Classic in Wintrust Arena. Curie players said that helped to get them used to playing on a college floor. Junior Jeremy Harrington Jr a double double 20 points 14 rebounds, junior Chikasi Ofoma with 21 points 8 rebounds, sophomore guard Carlos Harris 15 points 6 rebounds. Curie out rebounded Simeon 41-29. Senior guard Jaylen Drane and junior forward Wesley Rubin led Simeon with 14 each.

#11 Whitney Young 56 #5 Kenwood Academy 52: Another revenge game as Young turned the tables on a loss in the Proviso West Holiday Tournament title game. I'm not surprised as I picked Young to win this game. Senior Northern Illinois commit Xavier Amos had 14 points, junior guard Dalen Davis 11 for Young. Yes as Coach Tyrone Slaughter said they have probably played the toughest schedule of any public school in America. This is why I have not counted them out to make it to the Class 4A State Final Four. They could meet a third time in Credit Union 1 UIC Supersectional. Might not be over between these two teams. Senior guard Nevada commit Trey Pettigrew had 20, and junior guard Darrin Ames had 13.

#14 Curie vs #11 Young in the title game. As of now my pick is Young.

Rest of the Area:

#1 Glenbard West gets back to it's winning ways with a 44-26 victory at Hinsdale Central as senior forward Braden Huff had 18.

Lyons Township guard Billy Bach commits to Depauw University.

Niles North guard Yogi Oliff commits to Washington University St Louis.

Senior Matthew Neal 16 points 3 rebounds for Perspectives Leadership in win over Epic.

Senior Donzell Cooke a double double 13 points 11 rebounds for Perspectives Leadership in win over Epic.

Senior Indiana State commit Robbie Avila 29 points for Oak Forest in win over Thornton Fractional North.

Senior Fred Robinson 16 points for Oak Forest in win over Thornton Fractional North.
