Superlatives in Chicago Area High School Basketball tonight!!!!!

Writer's picture: Big TimBig Tim

I was at Hyde Park Academy tonight. Great atmosphere. A DJ(which is so Chicago Public League but great touch), some celebrities in the house. The great scout Larry Butler, IN THE GYM Jimmy Smith, Whitney Young Head Coach Tyrone Slaughter, former Whitney Young point guard great Ahmad Starks and a few others. #7 Curie won in their usual workmanlike fashion. They don't do anything fancy, they just pound you to death on the glass and the guards drive to the basket and finish or dish it to a big for a bucket. Curie is quietly 18-2 and a serious threat in the Chicago Public League and Class 4A State playoffs. They are a young team with only one senior. Hyde Park Academy is tough on their home court and was in it till the last minute of the game. Junior forwards Chikasi Ofoma(26 points 12 rebounds 5 blocks), and Jeremy Harrington Jr(15 points 13 rebounds 3 assists) both had double/doubles for Curie. Their high/low game is ridiculous. Senior guard Davontae Hall led Hyde Park Academy with 20 points 4 rebounds and 3 steals, Byron Hobbs Jr had 13 points 4 steals and 4 blocks in loss.

#13 Brother Rice avoids upset on their home court and wins Battle of Pulaski in Overtime over Marist. 4 players in double figures led by junior Khalil Ross double/double of 15 points 12 rebounds, Junior Nick Niego 14 points, Jayden Watson 12 points, and junior Ahmad Henderson II 11 points and 9 assists.

#4 Hillcrest hammers #8 Leo at home. Junior Darrion Baker had 13 points and 9 rebounds.

Haven Roberts 24 points 7 rebounds 6 steals for Momence in win over Grace Christian.

Sophomore sensation Nojus Industraitis of Lemont 20 points in win over Thornton Fractional North.

#1 junior Owen Freeman 17 points 9 rebounds for Bradley Bourbonnais in win over Stagg.
