Neuqua Valley came into The Canyon at Christian (Yorkville) without senior star Whitman Charboneau (ankle) but still took care of business. Senior Marquis Vance of Marist (Chicago) has a 40/20 double/double on senior night amongst other top performances in the state. Here we go:

Neuqua Valley (Naperville) 94 Christian (Yorkville) 64:

This was a fun game to watch though it ended up a blowout. Star freshman Cole Kelly of Neuqua Valley (Naperville) looked the part playing all over the court scoring at every level of the court. Lefty has a quick release on his jumper. Senior Tola Taiwo had himself a night (possibily a career night) picking up the slack for Charboneau.

First quarter:

Fast paced from the jump as both teams were pushing it up the court. Kelly came out firing in the quarter as he was he took 7 shots and made 5 of them for 11 points in the quarter. Taiwo had 6. For Christian (Yorkville), senior Zach Marini came out firing hitting 4 threes on 7 attampts for 12 points. Neuqua Valley led 21-16 at the end of the quarter.

Second quarter:

Neuqua Valley kept the pressure up pushing the ball, forcing turnovers, and running good half court offsense scoring on off side cuts to the basket and layups. Taiwo went on a scoring run in the quarter totaling 14 points in the quarter for 20 at half. Shot 6 for 7 from the field (2 threes). Outscored Christian (Yorkville) by himself in the quarter. For Christian (Yorkville) junior point guard Jayden Riley scored 8 points on 2 threes in the quarter. Neuqua Valley outscored Christian (Yorkville) 25-13 in the quarter for a 46-29 halftime lead. Kelly had 13 of his 15 rebounds by halftime.

Third Quarter:

Christian (Yorkville) kept in contact outscoring Neuqua Valley 26-21 in the quarter as the action was still fast paced. Christian (Yorkville) senior Brady Sovern got hot in the quarter hitting 3 threes in a row for all 9 of his points. Riley had 8 points and 4 assists in the quarter. Neuqua Valley sophomore Mason Martin had 6 of his 13 points in the quarter. Taiwo scored 6 points in the quarter. Neuqua Valley led 67-55 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Fourth quarter:

Christian (Yorkville) cut the lead to 8 before Neuqua Valley ran away with the game and led by 30 with 2:30 left in the game triggering a running clock. Kelly had 7 points in the quarter including two nasty one legged fallaway jumpers in the mid range, along with hitting a three. Neuqua Valley had 8 different players score in the quarter. Neuqua Valley outscored Christian (Yorkville) 27-9 in the quarter to put it away.
