Some great matchups in Class 3A nothing is a foregone conclusion here. Here we go:
Marian Catholic(Chicago Heights):
Lemont vs Hillcrest(Country Club Hills): Hillcrest won the matchup two weeks ago for the conference title. A great sophomore battle for Nojus Industraitis of Lemont vs Isaiah Green of Hillcrest. Junior point guard Bryce "Diggy"Tillery will have to push the tempo. Key will be Lemont dealing with the huge big men of Hillcrest, guys like junior Darrion Baker, senior Marcus Glover, junior Matthew Moore all 6'7" and up. Lemont will need big time production from the sophomore Castillo twins(Rokas, Matas). Game is on Tuesday.
Kankakee vs Thornton Township(Harvey): Teams split the regular season matchups as they are conference foes. Key will be senior Illinois commit Ty Rodgers of Thornton who is the de facto point guard and a double double machine. Kankakee had a slow start as they had players in the football State Finals. Senior guard Tomale Staples, senior guard Pierra Allen and Nate Hill Jr will have to be a three headed monster for Kankakee. Junior guard Vincent Rainey will have to keep being hot from three point range for Thornton to advance. Senior forward Montreal McCullough will have to bring his A game for Thornton in the game. Game is on Wednesday.
Martin Luther King Jr(Chicago):
DeLaSalle Institute(Chicago) vs Westinghouse(Chicago): One matchup will decide who wins this game. Senior guard DaJuan Bates of DeLaSalle Institute is a high scoring guard and senior guard Joshua West will have to figure out a way to slow him down. He's a very good on ball defender. Junior wing Evan Jackson of DeLaSalle Institute will have to have a big game for his team to advance. Junior point guard Isaiah Giles of Westinghouse will have to control tempo. Look for an up and down fast paced game. Game is Wednesday.
Hinsdale South(Darien):
Hyde Park Academy(Chicago) vs Mount Carmel(Chicago): THIS IS A HUGE GAME!!!!!! Schools are right around the corner from each other so a neighborhood rivalry. Chicago Public League vs Chicago Catholic League. Big time guard matchup of senior guard Davontae Hall of Hyde Park versus junior point guard DeAndre Craig of Mount Carmel. Whomever plays better will go a long way in deciding the winner. Another juicy matchup is senior wing Malik Jenkins of Hyde Park versus senior forward Elijah Jointer of Mount Carmel.
North Chicago:
Carmel Catholic(Mundelein) vs St Patrick(Chicago): This is a East Suburban Catholic matchup that St Patrick dominated in the lone regular season matchup. The stars will decide this one too. You have senior wing Niagara commit Bryce Moore of Carmel versus senior wing Timaris Brown of St Patrick. Carmel will bring a lot of fans as it's a short travel for their fan base.
