I've seen this young man play in one event: Bill Hensley Run-N-Slam in Fort Wayne, IN. I was told by his travel coach he's only been playing organized basketball for two years. Well here we go. Darrion Sutton Ladies and Gentlemen!!!!!

DARRION SUTTON, Class of 2024 6'10" wing, Ranking of 126th in 247 composite, Accelerated Prep (CO), Young And Reckless (IL): Originally from St Louis, Missouri, the lefty averaged 16 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, 4 blocks in 4 games at the Run-N-Slam. Did everything in win over All Ohio Red EYBL 17U filling out the stat sheet. Took National Top 3 player in the class, Flory Bidunga of Indiana Elite 3SSB to the perimeter and made things tough on him. Had a dunk over Bidunga go viral, with his right hand!!!!! https://twitter.com/jared_kelly7/status/1655238098006032385?s=61&t=9iI_MPKDvJi1zSTS-hxd1w. He had 17 points in the Platinum Bracket Quarterfinal loss. Plays with a loaded team at Accelerated, but has a chance to be the guy with Y n R. Breakdown of his game. Here we go:

OFFENSE: Has a lot of tools in the tool box, though I wish he would be more aggressive looking to score. Sutton can hit threes from any spot on the floor. He hit threes in the Run-N Slam event mostly off the jab step and pull-up. He's a threat to get to the basket and either score with a dunk, make a lob pass to a teammate, or hit a waiting shooter at the three point line in his shooting pocket. Has a lefty floater in the paint from 10 feet out along with a pull-up from mid range in his arsenal. Uses a spin to his right shoulder and soft pull-up shot from that range. Nice step around Euro step in the lane, that gets him loose and puts the defense at his mercy. Great vision to see over the defense and hit teammates for lobs, on drives and kick offs for easy baskets. Scores in the paint mostly with his left hand, but showed with the dunk on Bidunga he can also score with the right hand. Nice hesitation move going right to get a first step on his defender to stress the defense. Plays with a nice pace to his game, does not get sped up by the defense. Can also catch lobs and finish on the receiving end of a pass. Great hands to catch the ball from any spot on the court. He was the primary ball handler in a lot of situations and did not get stripped of the ball once all weekend. Can be a primary ball handler (point guard) for your team.

DEFENSE: Can guard all five positions on the court, moves his feet well on pick and roll. Switchable force on this end of the court. Has potential to give offenses fits with his versatility. Can play with any lineup. Good rim protector, rebounds well when he boxes the opponent out. Sometimes can get muscled in the paint, but does not allow opponents to bully him most of the time. Uses long arms to get into passing lanes for steals and run outs on the fast break. Had multiple blocked shots in all games. Blocks shots with either hand. Great timing as he lets the offensive player shoot the ball before jumping. Got into some foul trouble against Indiana Elite 3SSB.

CONCLUSION: A young thoroughbred with a a great future as he does not have a lot of experience in organized basketball right now. To me needs to be more aggressive looking to score, as he has the ability to do it in bunches. He's such an unselfish basketball player, likes to keep his teammates involved. Just develop a little bit more of a dog mentality to kill his defender consistently. He had some early offers from Power 6 teams from St Johns (previous staff), DePaul, Ole Miss, and Rutgers. Sutton just received an offer from Creighton in the Big East. Plays in the tough Grind Session throughout the regular season. He was the best prospect in the gym at the Bill Hensley Run-N Slam. I look for him to be a Power 6 star and I see a potential pro (NBA). I also look for him to make similar jump in rankings i.e Anthony Black and Xavier Booker. These are other independent shoe company veterans that put their names in McDonald's All-American Game consideration. I call on Pangos All American Game, Elite 100, and others to extend him an invite to their events this summer. Also hopefully the Wooten Camp, USA Basketball extends an invite in the Fall. You will not regret giving the invite.
