Writer's picture: Big TimBig Tim

I'd like to thank the folks at Under Armour for inviting me to their Finals. I'd also like to thank Coach Treal Holland III for the hospitality at Recruit Look at Benet Academy (Lisle). Here we go:

UNDER ARMOUR FINALS:

17U Champs are Team Thrill which won the title for second time in three years over Arizona Select. This group also won the 16U title last year improving on runners-up finish at the 15U level a couple of years ago. Game was tied with a minute thirty left and shot clock was running down for Team Thrill. Class of 2025 5'9" point guard Rodney Scott hit a 30 foot three point shot at the shot clock buzzer to give them a three point lead. They got a stop and next possesion Class of 2025 6'4" combo guard Aiden Caulker hit his own three at the shot clock buzzer to clinch it for Team Thrill.

16U Champs were KC RUN GMC won the title over Arizona Select. Led by the shooting of Class of 2026 Eli Herbert from outside and in the midrange, they took control in the fourth quarter to win the title. Class of 2026 Ian Premer scored in the paint and rim protected to make things tough for Arizona Select.

TOP MATCHUP:

Davis Fogle, Seattle Select vs Aidan Bardic of Breakaway Basketball in 17U Under Armour Next Quarterfinal:

This was worth the price of admission. Fogle, a Gonzaga commit is a 6'7" wing who can go off the dribble and made numerous shots over the 6'3" Bardic. Most of the game though Bardic made him work for his points. He just received some division one offers and showed he was worth them here. Fogle had a game high 24 points and ended up leading Seattle Select to the UA Next 17U Title. Bardic ended up with 18 points and had a chance to hit the game winner at the buzzer. It came up short.

RECRUIT LOOK:

KASSIDY NELSON BREAKS OUT:

6'5" point forward for Meanstreets 16U EYBL showed his versatiity in the two games I saw over the weekend. Started the travel season on Meanstreets 16U EYCL, but was injured most of the Spring. He has come around big time this summer. Filled the stat sheet out in points, rebounds, assists, and blocked shots. He was emerging in his sophomore year at Simeon Career Academy (Chicago) last season. He doesn't shoot a lot of threes, but has shown he can hit them. Mixes in nice drives and spin moves at the rim to finish. Shows a nice mid range floater, but is best as a passer. He can guard any position on the high school level and did it here. It's beyond me why he did not leave the event with a scholarship? Oh and showed his athleticism with a nasty followup dunk on Sunday. To add it's likely he'll play football this year for the Wolverines as a wide receiver and safety. Great size for both positions look for some scholarship offers to come his way in that sport. He'll have a decision at which sport he wants to play in college? One to watch moving forward.

ANDRE TYLER SHOWED HIS SCORING CHOPS:

6'5" combo guard for Meanstreets 16U EYBL put it together in this event with high scoring games in the high 20's and low 30 point games. Showed his athleticism in driving to the basket, some acrobatic finishes at the rim. Used spin moves to score and high flying dunks as this King of Bounce also got out in transition and finished. He was consistent and engaged most of the weekend. As a result a scholarship offer came from Northern Illinois. More should come for this young man.

DEHRIO MCCASKILL HAD THE DUNK OF THE SUMMER:

6'3" high flying forward for SW Jets Owens 17U took a pass from a teammate and did a nasty spread eagle dunk over a Howard Pulley 6'10" defender (WATCH...YOUR....HEAD). King of Bounce also had another nasty dunk in one of the other games on the weekend.

Chace Wesley, 6'2" point guard, Howard Pulley (MN) 17U

Joseph Mitchell III, 6'1" point guard, Howard Pulley (MN) 17U
