Neither team shot well in this Sectional Final. This was the fourth consecutive year these teams have met in a Sectional Final. Game was tight for a half, then the best player on the court took over in the third quarter and game over. Here we go:
GLENBROOK NORTH HIGH SCHOOL (NORTHBROOK, IL):
Loyola Academy (Wilmette) 55 Maine South (Park Ridge) 30:
First quarter:
Neither team could buy a basket. Lots of threes taken by both teams and they were shooting blanks. They combined 2 for 12 from three (Maine South 1 for 5, Loyola Academy 1 for 7). Lots of running down the floor but nothing much was falling. It was that way for most of the game. Maine South led 10-8 after one quarter.
Second quarter:
More of the same for both teams. Maine South went 1 for 7 from three in the quarter, Loyola Academy was 1 for 6 and star Vanderbilt commit Aubrey Galvan was 0 for 5 herself for the half. Loyola Academy outscored Maine South 11-7 in the quarter for a 19-17 lead at the half. Both teams combined 15 for 48 for the half. (Maine South 7 for 24, Loyola Academy 8 for 24).
Third quarter:
I don't know what happened in the locker room at halftime, or if Galvan refocused, but she went to work. I have not seen this kind of shooting in a short period of time since John Scheyer of ironically Glenbrook North (Northbrook)'s 21 points in 75 seconds at the Proviso West Holiday tournament in December 2005. Galvan hit 7 shots in a row, 6 of them three pointers. She scored 23 points in the quarter BY HERSELF!!!!! Another factor was Loyola Academy's full court press created a bunch of Maine South turnovers in the quarter. Teammates kept feeding Galvan the ball. She hit two threes off steals and stepping into three point shots on the break. Loyola Academy outscored Maine South 27-11 in the quarter. They led 46-28 at the end of the third quarter. Game was Maine South leading 28-26 then this 20-0 run by Loyola Academy effectively ended the game right there. Maine South had 7 consecutive turnovers.
Fourth quarter:
Loyola Academy scored only 9 points in the quarter and Galvan didn't score again missing her last two three point shots. Maine South only scored 2 points so no chance at a comeback from the Galvan offensive and defensive assault.

Loyola Academy (Wilmette):
Senior Aubrey Galvan 27 points 2 steals

Loyola Academy (Wilmette) advances to Warren Township (Gurnee) Supersectional against Hiuntley (35-0) on Monday with a 33-2 record.
Maine South (Park Ridge) ends season with a 25-10 record.
