It had been a long time since I had been to Westinghouse. Last time I was there was when the old building was standing which was torn down in 2007. Beautiful facility and great atmosphere for taking in a basketball game. I also have top performances for the night.
Westinghouse College Prep (Chicago) aka "The House" 62 Taft (Chicago) 61: I was sitting in the stands and Westinghouse was down 61-56 with 1:05 left and a timeout was taken. My thought at the time was "Westinghouse is going to win this game". Why? The history of "The House" since I've came to the area in 1995 is never give up. No matter the score they play till 0.00 on the clock. I feel that history carried this team to the come back win. Onto the game. First quarter ended tied at 16, and Westinghouse led 30-25 at half, and 46-38 after three. I also had the feeling Taft was not out of the game, and they was not. Went on a 14-2 run in the fourth to take a 61-56 lead. Senior Askia Bullie had two consecutive steals in the last minute of the game. Taft had a chance to go up three at the free throw line with 11.5 seconds left but missed both free throws. Westinghouse rebounded and called timeout. After timeout Bullie drives to the basket, missed the shot but drew a blocking foul on Taft with 1.5 seconds left. Bullie then hits the court wo pressure free throws to go up 1. Taft gets a pass down the court that was intercepted to end the game. DJ Bolden had 29 points (16 in first half) 5 rebounds 2 steals. Westinghouse goes to 8-2, 2-0 in Chicago Public League Red North/West while Taft drops to 3-7, 0-3 in conference play.
DJ Bolden, 6'2" senior combo guard, Westinghouse College Prep (Chicago) is one of the top 2 shooter/scorers in the Chicago Public League Red Division. Elite level scorer on all three levels at the high school level. Knows how to draw contact and get to the free throw line.
Askia Bullie, 6'0" senior point guard, Westinghouse College Prep (Chicago) has some of the quickest hands in the city. He will probably play football in college as a quarterback, but is very skilled on the hardwood. The point guard had 12 points 2 rebounds 8 assists 6 steals and a block.
Emmanuel Fuller, 6'4" wing, Westinghouse College Prep (Chicago) hit the glass big time tonight. He had 6 points 13 rebounds 1 steal tonight.
Nathan Serrano, 6'0" sophomore point guard, Taft (Chicago) is an underrated player in his class. Can score on threes and drives to the rim. Good vision as a passer. Had 12 points 5 rebounds 4 assists 4 steals tonight.
Frank Paszkowski, 6'3" senior wing hit 5 threes for 17 points 9 rebounds 1 assist and 3 blocks tonight.
Lyle Scibor, 6'1" senior guard had 13 points 6 rebounds tonight
