Wheeling Hardwood Classic Preview 2023!!!!

Writer's picture: Big TimBig Tim

Last year had a surprise winner which was Libertyville. Will they have another one this year? Should be interesting. Here we go:

FAVORITE:

Glenbrook North (Northbrook): Yeah yeah I picked them last year, AND WAS WRONG!!!!!! So I could be again this year, but I'm going to pick them anyway lol. Senior laden team starting with guard Josh Fridman. Looks like he has not missed a beat and college need to get on the boat and grab him. Senior guard Denison College commit Owen Giannoulias is a knockdown shooter who can attack the rim. The other of the three musketeers in the backcourt is Sam Lappin who can shoot, pass and dribble. Northwestern football commit Patrick Schaller handles the paint area and rim protecting.

DARK HORSES:

Wauconda: Could get to the final as they have the best scorer in the tournament. Who is that you ask? That would be Mercer commit senior wing Braeden Carlsen, who could put up some big numbers in the tournament. He's helped by senior point guard Wheaton College commit Cayden Mudd who runs the team. Other support is senior forward Tyler Tylka and Zach Miller who both hold up the paint. Could end up in the title game.

Fremd (Palatine): They could get to the semifinal and a date with Glenbrook North (Northbrook). Senior guard Ryan Cox is the engine, but junior guard Samuel Hirsch is a knockdown three point shooter. Sophomore forward Jordan Williams is a double/doubl threat who's energy on the glass is contagious. Junior wing Ryan Brown is another knockdown shooter.

UNKNOWN QUANTITY:

Neuqua Valley (Naperville): They could be in the title game as they have played a tough schedule which will help them here. They have a top scorer themselves in senior guard Luke Kinkade. Senior forward John Bieber takes care of the paint and rim protecting. Senior point guard Colin Gerrity runs the show. Junior wing Whitman Charboneau does a little bit of everything.
