One of the best days of high school basketball ever. Joe Hendrickson put together some great matchups every year but outdid himself this year. The first three games were down to the wire, and the fourth game had intrigue with some pregame comments by Kenwood Academy (Chicago) Coach Mike Irvin. Thanks also to Benet Academy (Lisle) staff who did a great job with hospitality and an electric atmosphere. Standing room only the entire day. Here we go:
AHMAD HENDERSON II, Brother Rice (Chicago): Niagara commit 5'10" senior point guard had 8 straight points in one stretch in the second half. Took over the game in a five point win over Rolling Meadows. He had 18 points (4 of 5 from three in second half) 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
NICK NIEGO, Brother Rice (Chicago): The 6'2" senior guard had 12 points off the bench on 4 of 7 from three point range. He helped the Crusaders get some separation in the first half.
XZAVIER FITCH, Brother Rice (Chicago): The 6'7"junior forward was aggressive looking for his offense especially in the first half. He had 12 points and 7 rebounds in the game.
CAMERON CHRISTIE, Rolling Meadows: Minnesota commit 6'6" senior point guard had 29 points on 10 of 21 shooting, and 4 rebounds in the game. He hit shots from 15 feet and out in this game.
MARK NIKOLITCH-WILSON, Rolling Meadows: The 6'8' senior forward had another double/double 12 points 15 rebounds 3 assists as he scored consistently in the paint against Brother Rice (Chicago)
DALEN DAVIS, Whitney Young (Chicago): Princeton commit 6'0' senior point guard had 15 points and 3 assists in the game. t
ANTONIO MUNOZ, Whitney Young (Chicago): The 6'6" sophomore wing was outstanding for the Dolphins with 17 points 8 rebounds and 4 blocks in game against West (Joliet).
JUSTUS MCNAIR, West (Joliet): The 6'2" junior guard had a double/double of 17 points (4 of 6 from three) and 10 rebounds. His rebounding was huge for his team in win over Whitney Young (Chicago).
JEREMY FEARS JR, West (Joliet): Michigan State commit 6'3" senior point guard was clutch down the stretch. He kept driving and scoring on a couple of three point plays to get his team over the hump in win. He had 28 points 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
OWEN FREEMAN, Moline: Iowa commit 6'9" senior forward had a double/double of 25 points 11 rebounds 3 assists 2 steals and 3 blocks against Simeon Career Academy (Chicago). Scored on post moves in the paint area.
BROCK HARDING, Moline: Iowa commit 6'1" senior point guard heated up from three in the second half to get his team back in the game. He was 3 of 5 from three in the second half. He ended up with a double/double of 16 points 11 assists and 2 steals.
JALEN GRIFFITH, Simeon Career Academy (Chicago): The 5'10" senior point guard ran the show and knew when to shoot and when to pass. He had team leading 16 points and 3 steals in win over Moline.
WES RUBIN, Simeon Career Academy (Chicago): Northern Iowa commit 6'9" senior forward had 8 points 5 rebounds and 2 assists. He's on this list because he had the game winning block with 1.1 seconds left to preserve a one point win over Moline.
CALVIN ROBINS JR, Kenwood Academy (Chicago): The 6'5" junior wing had a team leading 15 points and 7 rebounds to help keep the Broncos in the game against Benet Academy (Chicago).
BRADY KUNKA, Benet Academy (Lisle): The 6'3" senior guard had a big time game shooting the basketball. He had 26 points on 5 of 8 from three 4 rebounds. He seemed to hit a shot to keep Kenwood Academy (Chicago) at bay in the win.
BRAYDEN FAGBEMI, Benet Academy (Lisle): Johns Hopkins commit 6'0" point guard controlled the pace and handled Kenwood Academy (Chicago)'s pressure all night long with no problem. He had 15 points 3 rebounds 8 assists and 2 steals in win.
NIKO ABUSARA, Benet Academy (Lisle): Dartmouth commit 6'5" senior wing played all over the court, even running some point guard. Had 2 huge steals and dunks at clutch times in the game. He had 12 points 7 rebounds 2 assists and the aforementioned 2 steals.
Game had 5 of the top 7 seniors in the event (Christie, Fears Jr, Freeman, Harding, and Darrin Ames). Also had 2 of the top 3 sophomores (Jeremiah Fears, Munoz) and an underrated junior (Robins Jr). Event was loaded with talent. Till next year.
